To this day, there are Black people who don’t believe Black is beautiful. I’ve heard some Black writers say, ‘I’m a writer of the universal experience.’ Well, I maintain that I write from a Black experience and I tell others, you become universal when the Black experience you write is understood and acknowledged by others! This is who we be, so deal with it.
